During your consultation
During your consultation, the pharmacist may:
- Review your destination, itinerary, travel dates, and planned activities
- Review your medical conditions, allergies, medications, and vaccine history
- Identify travel vaccines that may be recommended
- Discuss medications that may be appropriate for travel-related illness, such as travellers’ diarrhea or malaria prevention when indicated
- Provide advice on food, water, insect bite, sun, and general travel safety
- Prescribe and administer vaccines or medications when clinically appropriate and within scope
- Provide a record of your consultation for your own records or your primary care provider
Recommendations may include, when appropriate:
- Hepatitis A and B vaccination
- Traveller’s diarrhea prevention and treatment options
- Malaria prevention
- Routine vaccine review
- Influenza or other seasonal vaccines when available
- Sun protection and insect bite prevention
- Other travel-specific recommendations based on your destination
When should you book?
Book early when possible.
Some vaccines need time to work, and some vaccine series require more than one dose. Booking several weeks before travel gives more time to prepare.
